Super
Radio X wants writers!
If you've got a burning desire deep inside to
write a cool article or review for www.superradiox.com
(not to be confused with a mild burning sensation
when you pee), that's great! We want your stuff!
That said, we'd really appreciate it if you would
take the time to look over the following SUBMISSION
GUIDELINES before sending anything in.
WHAT
WE WANT
Super
Radio X is currently seeking reviews and articles.
On this website, a review is a shorter piece,
generally 750-2000 words, reviewing either one
thing (i.e. a video game), or a collective group
of things (i.e. a game system's launch line-up).
An article is pretty much any other piece of writing,
generally longer than a review. This currently
includes interviews.
WHAT
SHOULD YOU WRITE?
Although
we're looking for a variety of pieces, some are
more desirable than others. A review, for instance,
will be easier to get posted than an article.
A review of a video game will be easier to get
posted than a review of a DVD. A review of a cool
DVD, however, such as Army of Darkness,
will be easier to get posted than a lame
DVD, such as Runaway Bride. This is because
the main focus of the site is on video games.
We will post a well-written review of almost anything,
but first-time constributors may want to consider
reviewing a video game. As for articles, since
they are more about the writing itself reviews
are, they will be held up to a higher standard.
Again, first-time contributors may want to consider
starting with a review.
THE
SUPER RADIO X STYLE:
- REVIEWS
Reviews should be 750-2000 words. Be creative
with your writing; don't just dryly cover the
bases of something's good and bad points. Add
personal touches. Don't alter your score to
be more in line with the consensus: we want
reviews that reflect what YOU think. If you
can be funny, go for it, but don't force it
-- we'd rather have a unique review with personality
than one with a bunch of corny jokes. We'll
take reviews of games, CDs, DVDs, movies, comic
books, and more, but reviews of games are what
we want the most. If a game review has a 70%
chance of getting posted, a CD review has a
50% chance, and a Dirt Devil Handivac review
has a 2% chance of getting posted (not that
these percentages are true). It's all about
the quality of the writing. Reviews should end
with one overall score of a number from 0 to
5, 5 being the highest possible. Depending on
what you review, it will be # out of 5 (something)s,
(something) being related to what was reviewed.
If you review Castlevania, for instance,
you might give the game 3 out of 5 flying Medusa
heads. Don't send in any images with your reviews.
Don't break your review down into multiple sections
with headers unless you really need to for some
reason.
- ARTICLES
Articles can be any length, but in general should
be longer than a review. Articles can be on
any subject, but, as with reviews, a game-related
article will be more likely to get posted. Articles
should be humorous, or, failing that, at least
have a lot of personality and a unique point
of view. Articles may include 3 or 4 images
(more if you really need them), but please do
not send these with the original submission.
We will ask for them later. If you want to submit
an interview, please contact us BEFORE you conduct
the interview, so we can help you come up with
relevant questions.
THE
PROCESS
After you are done writing your piece, you can
e-mail it to
submissions@superradiox.com. Please include
in the subject line the word "review"
or "article" and either what you are
reviewing or the title of your article. Either
attach it as a Word file or copy and paste the
text into the body of the e-mail. We'll try to
get back to you soon after receiving your e-mail,
but please do not send more e-mails asking if
we got the first one until at least a week or
so. And PLEASE do not bug us about it on the message
board. We'll then read your submission. If it's
good enough to be posted right away, we'll let
you know. In most cases, however, we'll e-mail
you back with a list of suggestions for tweaks,
changes, and/or improvements. You'll then do a
revision and send it back. After that, there will
either be more requests for revision or we'll
proofread and edit the peice ourselves and send
it back to you for approval. If you accept the
changes, we'll post it!
NOTES
Please don't take it personally if you submit
an article and we ask you for changes. Super Radio
X is still growing and we have very specific qualities
that we want in what we post. If the submission
process seems difficult at first, just keep at
it; chances are you'll learn some new writing
tricks and end up happier with the finished work.
Also, these guidelines are subject to change,
and we likely won't keep submissions this open
forever! We're looking for writers now, so it's
a good time to get on board.
